Eugene Dewey Foxworth III died December 15, 2013, at the age of 58, after a courageous 22-month battle with a brain tumor. Foxy was born in Beaufort, SC, on December 18, 1954, the son of Elizabeth Mullins Hubbard Foxworth and Eugene Dewey Foxworth Jr. He graduated from Middleton High School in 1973, where he was an All-Lowcountry linebacker and a Palmetto Boy's State representative, and from the College of Charleston in 1977, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Following his graduation, Foxy served five years in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Officer in the 3rd Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Brigade in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii before reaching the rank of Captain. From the Marine Corps, Foxy joined US Lines as a sales representative in Boston, MA. In 1984, Foxy joined Merrill Lynch in Charleston, SC, where he was a stockbroker for 25 years. The past five years of his career were spent at Morgan Stanley. Foxy was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church for over forty years and served on the vestry and as a member of the Men's Ministry. He served as camp commander of the Fort Sumter Sons of Confederate Veterans and chairman of the board of Trident Academy. He was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, Hibernian Society, St. Andrews Society, Carolina Yacht Club, the Charleston Club and the Centurion. Foxy was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan. Most weekends you could find Foxy at his farm in Greeleyville, SC, preparing for hunting season or an oyster roast. If he wasn't in Greeleyville, you would find him at his home, affectionately known as The Birdyard, working in his vegetable garden. He is fondly remembered for his Carolina Gamecock tailgates, but they serve as only one example of Foxy's gracious hospitality. In all that he did and to everyone he met, Foxy was a gentleman, a friend, and a spirited soul. He will be missed and toasted by friends and family throughout South Carolina ranging to the West Coast, as well as some of those still serving our country overseas. Foxy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rosa Cantey Heyward Todd Foxworth, his son, Eugene Dewey Foxworth IV, his daughter, Heyward Boykin Foxworth; three sisters, Elizabeth Foxworth Fritz and her husband, H.
