Ernest Julius Miller, Sr.

Entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 29, 2011, Ernest Julius Miller, Sr. widower of Carolyn Marie Bendt Miller. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Ernest J. Miller, Sr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM. Ernest Miller was born in Charleston on Sunday, May 16, 1920, a son of Horace Eugene and Annie Virginia Rantin Miller and attended local schools. He honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II, Korea and Vietnam and retired after thirty years as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Miller was employed by Vocational Rehab of South Carolina as a Workshop Supervisor. He was a lifetime member of the Washington Light Infantry, charter member of the Military Officers Association of America, the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Husband, father, friend and mentor. Loved by many and a friend to all. Mr. Miller is survived by his children, Ave Maria M. Campbell and her husband, Raymond, Theresa Ann M. Crump and her husband, Wayne, Ernest J. Miller, Jr. and his wife, Teresa; his grandchildren: Ernie, Bernie, Randy, Robby, Russell, Tony, Regina, Shannon, Krissy and Misty; his twelve great grandchildren; his brothers, LeRoy T. Miller and Ralph L. Miller; his sister, Ellen Fralix and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Horace, Herbert and Elizabeth.
