Emanuel D. Knight, Sr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina.
The relatives and friends of Manuel Knight are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon Friday, February 4, 2022, at St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial, with Military Honors, will be private.
Born August 26, 1924, in Summerville, Manuel was the son of Oscar E. Knight and Anna-Estelle (“Essie”) Knight. He was a devout member of St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church. Manuel served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He also owned Knight’s Food Store on the corner of Line and Ashe Streets in Charleston for over 40 years. In his later years, Manuel spent his time gardening, giving to others and his church as well as spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Manuel was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruby E. Knight; his son, Gary S. Knight Sr.; his daughter, Sondra K. Jordan; a grandchild, Rebecca N. Knight; two sisters, Valda K. Leyh of North Charleston and Agnes K. Thompson of Charleston.
Survivors include his son, Emanuel D. Knight, Jr. (Mona) of Summerville; his daughter, Laura L. Knight of Charleston; a brother, Melvin C. Knight, Sr. (Marlene) of Charleston; a sister, Nettie K. Poulnot (Wilton) of James Island; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in memory of Manuel to St. Andrews Parish UMC, 3225 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
