Elizabeth Michel Weikert Porter entered into eternal rest early in the afternoon of Sunday, December 19, 2010, after a very courageous sixteen year battle with ovarian cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Michael E. Porter and their son Justin M. Porter. She also leaves behind a sister, Minette W. Hutto and her sons of Walterboro; a brother, Bernard J. Weikert and his family of Hilton Head; a brother-in-law, Allen Porter and his wife Rachel; a sister-in-law, Julie Mulligan and her husband Dan; a sister-in-law, Carol Bishop and her husband Jacob; a brother-in-law, Marion Porter and his wife Cheryl, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Michel was born February 4, 1954 in Walterboro, SC, the elder daughter of the late Bernard J. Weikert and Minnie S. Weikert. As a child, she moved with her family to Ft. Myers, FL. She spent her summers as a child growing up on Yonges Island and Edisto Beach. Upon graduation from Ft. Myers High School in 1972, she returned to live in Charleston. Michel started working at the Medical University of SC in 1974 and at the time of her retirement in 2009 was the Executive Administrative Assistant of South Carolina AHEC. She loved her Yorkies, Logan and Anson, and when she wasn't spoiling them, she enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her family. Michel will be sorely missed by her family, friends and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service at the graveside will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 22, 2010, Christ Church in Adam's Run. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Michel's memory to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1400 New York, NY 10122 or a Hospice of one's choice.
