Mary Elizabeth Reiter Manucy of Mt Pleasant, SC, widow of Adolphus Newton Manucy, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 12, 2023.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 95 Hasell St. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James island. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
Elizabeth was born December 1, 1928, in Ashland, Kentucky to Louis John Reiter and Mary Brownfield Follin Reiter. She attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. After moving to Charleston she worked as a bookkeeper and stenographer at The Atlantic Tire and Battery Co., where she met her future husband. Elizabeth worked alongside her husband at Charleston Overseas and Freight Forwarders, Inc. before starting their family.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She devoted her life to her family and community. As a member of Christ Our King Parrish, Elizabeth helped start up the East Cooper Community Outreach Center, Shades of Hope and other charities quietly and modestly. She loved working in her gardens and met many a new and old friend sweeping her driveway.
She was predeceased by her parents, Louis John Reiter and Mary Brownfield Follin Reiter, her husband, Adolphus, her sister and brother-in-law, Talbot and Ellen Marion Follin Reiter.
She is survived by her children: Adolphus Newton Manucy III, (Robin) Mary Elizabeth Manucy, Robert Edward Manucy (Deborah), Margaret Ellen Manucy, John Marion Manucy (Sherri), Charlotte Ann Manucy Smith, William Michael Manucy. Grandchildren: Dolph Manucy, Alicia Jones, Steven Pool, Charlie Kendall, Samantha Manucy, Chandi Mitchum, Frank Cervantes, Laddie Smith and Whit Smith. Great-Grandchildren: Newton, Saylor, Eli, Marion, Matthew, Gil, and Mason. Along with several nieces, a nephew and cousins.
