Elizabeth Conway Lawler

Elizabeth Cecelia Conway Lawler, 85, of Charleston entered into heavenly life on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. The relatives and friends of Elizabeth Conway Lawler are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 15, 2012, in the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Saturday Morning from 10:00 AM until time of Service. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. Elizabeth was born on January 22, 1927 to Ruth Condon Conway and Francis Aloysius Conway. She graduated from Bishop England High School in 1944 and went on to modeling school where she enhanced her poise and charm. She worked for several years in banking at Citizens and Southern National Bank and in Miami, FL where she met the love of her life , Philip E. Lawler and captured his heart. Elizabeth and Phil were married in Charleston at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in 1961 and moved to Cleveland OH where Phil was an executive with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was the perfect hostess and wife to Phil and her southern charm won many a Yankee hearts wherever they traveled. They retired to Vero Beach, FL where they played golf and entertained friends until Phil's passing in 2000. Elizabeth then moved back to Charleston to be surrounded by her large family and friends from her youth. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Rosemary Conway Rowland, and her brothers, Frank (Francis A. Conway), and Jack (John C. Conway) and her nephew, Dr. Raoul B. Conway and stepson Philip W. Lawler. She is survived by daughter in law, Sue Lawler, widow of Philip W. Lawler, and four grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Kelly and Ian and their families, all of San Diego, Ca. Elizabeth's sister in law, Elizabeth C., "Libby" (Mrs. John C.) Conway of James Island survives her, as do Elizabeth's many nieces and nephews including Charlotte Conway, Ruthie Conway Smythe (Mrs. David M. Smythe), Lucia Rowland Owens (Mrs. James A. Owens), Alison Rowland Smoak (widow of Tony Smoak), Timothy Conway Rowland, John C. Conway, Jr., Patrick F. Conway and the family of the late Dr. Raoul B. Conway, and as well as numerous great grandchildren and grand nieces and nephews across the country. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers that have taken such beautiful care of her for over 7 years and to Dr. Robert Oliverio for his caring and kindness in her treatment.
