Elizabeth “Betty” Eaton, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 after a long battle with Dementia. The family will receive friends between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Burial will be private.
Born in Charleston, SC on September 2, 1938, she is the daughter of the late Paul and Dera Bicaise. Betty graduated from Charleston High and Palmer College. She is a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church.
While at Charleston High, Betty was in student government. She served as secretary, treasurer and vice president of her class. She was a member of the Honor Society while playing tennis and basketball for the high school. Her senior year she was co-captain of the basketball team.
Betty married Frank E. Eaton on June 7, 1958. She was a homemaker raising their three children. She then went to work for American Greetings for 25 years. While working, she was the caregiver for many members of her family. She played an integral part in raising her only grandchild Shannon.
Betty and Frank’s life revolved around sports. Their favorite teams were College of Charleston, Clemson Tigers, New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. They were season ticketholders for Clemson football for 15 years and the College of Charleston Men’s Basketball for 35-plus years. They were awarded the Cougar Clubs Top Fans in 2004. They traveled with the men’s basketball team to Alaska, Hawaii and the Bahamas. She played softball and bowled at Ashley Lanes for about 50 years. She was also a seamstress and enjoyed working in the yard. She even found time to have her friends over for their weekly canasta card night.
Betty is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Frank. She is survived by her children, Frank Jr, Beth and Gene along with her granddaughter, Shannon and her husband Owen Eberhardt. She also has 2 siblings, Rose Ann Mitchell and Edward Bicaise.
In lieu of flowers, you may choose to donate to the College of Charleston Athletic Fund, 66 George St., Charleston, SC 29424, in memory of Betty Eaton, or a charity of your choice.
