Eleanor Kate O'Neill

Eleanor Kate "Kitty" Frey O'Neill passed away June 27, 2026. She was a daughter of George Bryan Frey, M.D. and Bessie Brooks Frey, R.N.

Kitty was born April 4, 1938 in Columbia, SC and raised in Spartanburg, SC. Kitty was Valedictorian of her class at Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a BSN at the University of South Carolina. Kitty taught in the School of Nursing at MUSC, worked in Ophthalmology, and Utilization Review. She enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse and retired from MUSC. Kitty was happiest in her role as a wife and mother of four children.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James R. O'Neill, and a sister, Betsy Frey Mahaffey. She is survived by her children Angela B. O'Neill, James O'Neill, Jr., Brian O'Neill, and Stephen O'Neill; a stepdaughter, Katherine O. Smith, and a sister, Sally Frey Davis.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to The Disabilities Board of Charleston County.

A Private Interment will take place at a later date.
