Elaine is survived by her husband Stacy and their six children: Stacy L. Power (Lyn), Cathy Power Hudson (Terry), and twin, Casey A. Power, Tracy B. Power (Sherry), Kitty Power Duncan and her twin Katy A. Kuder (Chris), seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Elaine was born in Selma, Virginia on September 22, 1932. She was a basketball star at Selma High School where she graduated. She made high scores that still stand unbroken today. After graduation, she joined the Navy and made the rank of Yeoman 3rd Class where she served during the Korean War. While stationed in Washington, DC, she met her husband to be Stacy, and after a brief courtship, they were married and transferred to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Elaine became a stay at home mom while Stacy was riding submarines to sea. They went to Hawaii with one child and came back with four!
After transferring to Charleston, SC, Elaine entered Trident Technical College Computer Programming Course. When she graduated, they hired her. She remained there for 20 years before retiring. Elaine has been a loving wife and mother. She has never met a stranger. She has always been a loving and considerate individual, wanting to know more and “may I help you?” kind of person. She made a wonderful home for her family for nearly 70 years.
As of late, she has suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and until now, she has put up the good fight! Her Lord and Savior has called her home. All that ever knew her will miss her immensely.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Ave., Charleston, SC 29407, or The Charleston Alzheimer’s Association, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407.
