Elaine Speigle Blalock, 93, widow of James Phillip Blalock, Jr., entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2018. The relatives and friends of Elaine S. Blalock are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the graveside, Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Elaine was born on April 26,1925, in Chatham, Virginia a daughter of Chester Speigle and Ruth Denny Speigle. Her family moved to Charleston in 1928 when her father was hired to work as a lineman on the construction of the original Grace Memorial Bridge. She grew up in downtown Charleston and attended Asbury United Methodist Church. Elaine graduated from Meminger High School in 1942 and attended the College of Charleston and Rice Business College. In 1946, she
married James Philip Blalock, Jr. Elaine worked for Acacia Life Insurance company from 1945 until 1952 and later as a homemaker after the birth of her son, Philip Lance Blalock.
Elaine was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Wesley Fellowship Class. The Blalocks developed many dear friends at John Wesley and spent years traveling, camping and golfing with them. Elaine was an original member of the Piece Makers quilting group at John Wesley. They pieced and stitched hundreds of quilts over a 37 year period and dedicated all proceeds from their labors to the church. Elaine was also a well-loved volunteer in the church office for many years. She lived a blessed life, but is now living the very best part of life.
She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James Philip Blalock Jr. and is survived by her only son, Philip Lance Blalock (Jodie); her granddaughter, Elizabeth Blalock Fletcher (Michael) and grandson Philip Ryan Blalock (Ellen). Elaine enjoyed her three great granddaughters, Allene Blalock Fletcher, Kate Elson Fletcher and Nora McLeod Blalock.
