Edwin Drummond Taylor, Jr., 66, of Awendaw, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016. The relatives and friends of Mr. Edwin D. Taylor, Jr., are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Burial will follow at St. James Episcopal Churchyard, 1872 Camp Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Ed was born in Miami, Florida on October 6, 1949, a son of Doris E. Taylor and the late Edwin D. Taylor, Sr. He graduated from Palmetto Senior High School in Miami and attended Miami Dade Jr. College. Ed went on to graduate from Appalachian State University with a BA in political science and also graduated Respiratory Therapy school. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Ed had a very rewarding career in Respiratory Therapy, helping patients at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, NC and Taylorsville Hospital in Taylorsville, NC, and finally at Roper Hospital here in Charleston, beginning his work there in 1985.In addition to his respiratory therapy duties, Ed also taught RT student at Trident Technical College. He loved teaching and loved his patients. His 22 year career was cut unfortunately short after a near fatal automobile accident in 2007. Not only did he survive that accident, but he also beat two previous battles with cancer, before finally succumbing to the third, for which he was being treated at the Roper St. Francis Cancer Center. He loved music by Jimmy Buffett and Patsy Cline, snow skiing and politics, and was a civil war historian. Life taught Ed to learn from history and focus on your future. Ed is survived by his mother, Doris; brothers, Charles G. Taylor and his wife, Gay, and James L. Taylor and his wife Leah; sister, Suzanne E. Blanton and her husband John; nieces and nephews, John H. Blanton, Jr., Kyle L. Taylor, David D. Taylor, Devon Taylor, Michael G. Austin and his wife Jennifer, Ashley M. Austin and her husband Aiden Collazo, Taylor N. Walker and her husband Tyler and Lauren A. Taylor and her husband Dusty Jamison. Ed also leaves behind grand nieces and nephews, Sage Armer, Kaya Armer, Tyler Austin, Kate Austin, Jake Austin, Coraline Walker, Wayne Jamison and Sawyer Jamison. He was predeceased by his father, Edwin D.
