Ed was born on August 24, 1938 in Tehran, Iran, son of Shaul Khedouri and Roxanna Shirazi. At age 13 he attended Rhodes Preparatory School in Manhattan while living with his father, and at age 14 Eshton Hall, a boarding school in Gargrave, Yorkshire, England, where he graduated in 1956. He then joined his mother in New York City and attended City University of New York, graduating with a BS in chemistry.

In 1963 Ed was employed by the US Naval Oceanographic Office, going out to sea on Navy and cruise ships gathering and analyzing meteorological and ocean environmental data. Ed authored and co-authored numerous publications on underwater acoustics, on detecting the Gulf Stream from digital data using pattern recognition and the use of satellite altimetry among other titles. He presented his research at a number of national and international symposiums. He earned a number of commendations such as the Goldsborough Award for Best Technical Report in 1983. This meteorological and oceanographic data for modeling and simulation was prepared as operational, environmental support to the Department of Defense community. In 1978 Ed conducted his work at the Stennis Space Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss. after the US Naval Oceanographic Office moved to that location.

From 1984 to 1986 Ed served as Fleet Representative with US Sixth Fleet Area Antisubmarine Warfare Forces being stationed in Naples, Italy, and from 1987 to 1989 he was Fleet Representative with the Commander in Chief of the Navy in Europe being stationed in London, England. Ed last worked in Washington, DC for Commander Submarine Force US Pacific Fleet when he retired in 1998.

After retirement Ed and Mela moved to Charleston, SC to join with their younger son Christopher who was attending graduate school at Medical University of SC. Ed enjoyed the history and environment of Charleston and was an active member of the Unitarian Church of Charleston. Ed loved listening to books and enjoyed following national, international and financial news. Ed loved animals and was a supporter of organizations representing these causes such as the World Wildlife Fund. Although having been able to go on many trips while stationed overseas, during retirement Ed and Mela enjoyed travel in the US as well as river cruises in Europe, China and Russia.

Ed is survived by wife Mela Khedouri, sons Cyrus Khedouri and Christopher Kadoorie (Isabel), sister Mimi Howes (Brian) of London, England, granddaughter Angela Kadoorie, nephew Peter Howes and grandnephews Anton Howes and Nicholas Howes.
