Earle J. Spangler

Earle J. Spangler, 86, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday April, 15th, 2015. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Tom G. Spangler are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Pinecrest Baptist Church, 1285 Ashley Hall Rd. The burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Ave. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Saturday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Earle was born in Mullins, SC. She came to Charleston in 1958 via Columbia where she worked in the savings and loan field. In 1959 she began her career with Cooper River Federal Savings and Loan as a teller where, as she often said, she did a little bit of everything in the years before the computer. When the savings department was created, she became the first savings counselor, then savings officer. She retired after 25 years of service as an Assistant Vice President. She served two terms on the board of Charleston Chapter No. 155 of the Institute of Financial Education. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Tom Spangler; two daughters Tamela R. Spangler and Marie (Giles) Fleming, one grandson Jason (Jessica) Fleming, two great grandsons Jack and JW, all of Charleston and many nieces and nephews in and around Florence, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations memorials may be made to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston SC 29412.
