Dudley A. Autio, MD, 81, of Charleston, SC died peacefully at Hospice of Charleston on Wednesday, December 6, 2013. He was born on February 24, 1932, raised in Hampton Beach, NH and graduated from Harvard College and the Medical School of Vienna, Austria. He had lived on James Island for 40 years and was an avid fan of its waterways - fishing, shrimping, rowing, boating and sailing. Dudley was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His kind and loving nature and sense of humor will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many patients he cared for across the Lowcountry. He is survived by his wife, Fanny; his son, Eric Autio (Kristen) of Boston, daughter, Karen Autio, MD (Jim) of New York City; three grandsons, Benjamin, Nathan, and Cole, who adored their Papa; and a cousin, Carole Walles of New Hampshire. A visitation will be held at James A. McAlister Funeral Home at 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 3:00-5:00 PM. A memorial and burial will be held this summer in Hampton, NH.
