DOROTHY B. NOLAN CHARLESTON - Entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, Dorothy Ruth Bentz Nolan, the widow of Daniel Ernest Nolan, Sr. She was born in Charleston, a daughter of John Henderson and Lois Edwards Bentz on Saturday, October 16, 1926. Dorothy took great pride in her rural upbringing, where she was raised on her father's Wadmalaw farm, Locust Grove Plantation, and at Rockville. She spent many hours of every week even late in life, caring for her livestock and landscape and reaping the bounty that Wadmalaw offered. Dorothy knew the skill of thowing a cast net in the Leadenwah River, where few shrimp escaped. Dorothy was a tremendous cook, and only shared the secrets of her shrimp pie after many years of asking. She gave everlasting love and took great pride in her children and grandchildren, whom she instilled a strong work ethic and appreciation for the value of family. Most of all, Dorothy loved her best friend and sweetheart of over 60 years, Daniel, who served America proudly in World War II. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Anne Whitsett, two brothers, Jack and Lester Bentz and a sister, Betty Dane. Surviving are three children, Daniel E. Nolan, Jr. and his wife, Jan; Kathleen N. Julian and her husand Glen and Cindy N. Tecklenburg and her husband, Paul; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
