Doris Demos Springer, 94, of Hanahan, South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at her home after a period of declining health. The family of Ms. Springer invites you to her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC. The Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 AM. Born on July 27, 1921 in Manchester, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late George and Angeliki Demos. Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband James G. Springer in 1994 and four brothers, Edward, Christopher, James and Alex Demos. Doris graduated high school in Manchester, NH and worked throughout her career with the U.S. Postal Service in Charleston. She worked in the Personnel Department in several capacities and most recently as the secretary to the Post Master General. She was known as having the fast shorthand in her office, an art that is scarce today. She received many awards and accommodations within the Postal Service and was honored for working two consecutive years with perfect attendance, which she again repeated for another two years. After she retired, she remained a loyal and dedicated supporter of the Postal Service. Mrs. Springer was a long standing member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity parish in Charleston, as well as an on-going member in good standing of her hometown church, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Manchester, NH where her parents were charter members. She continues to love and support both churches. Mrs. Springer was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope Briseis Chapter, District 1, for many years and the Postal Mail Carriers Union. She is lovingly survived by her step-son James Springer and his wifeLinda of Tampa, Florida, her step- daughter Joy Sandifer and her husband James of Fairfax Station, VA; her nieces Claudine Ross of Phoenix, AZ, Alexandria "Sandy" Childs and her husband George of Harker Heights, TX; her nephews Marc Demos and his wife Alice of Manchester, NH and James T. Demos of Manchester, NH, many grand nieces and nephews, friends and her companion and caregiver of many years, Marilyn Aiken. Doris was always very generous to family, Koumbari, extended family and friends. The family wishes to thank Piedmont Hospice for their amazing and caring assistance and guidance.
