Doris Lee Workman Mellard, 90, of Charleston, SC, the widow of Wesley Fraser Mellard, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 16, 2011, just three months after her beloved husband's passing.. Mrs. Mellard was born in Davidson County, NC on August 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Vallie Viola Kennedy Workman and Grady Comodore Workman. She came to Charleston in 1943, fell in love and married. Through the 68 years of marriage they did everything as one. From the Elk's Lodge or the Church of the Holy Communion and even entertaining together with music and dancing, they were truly a unit in the community. Doris Mellard is survived by one sister, Geraldine Workman Braxton Pfaehler and husband Robert Ashley Pfaehler and their two sons , Wesley Darrell Braxton and his sons, Jonah and Jeremy Braxton Brown, Noah Temple and Charlie Walters; Lindsey Pfaehler and his wife Judith Pfaehler and their sons, Dustin and Michael Pfaehler. Nephews; Grady Ray Workman III and his three sons, Dennis Workman and wife Lisa Workman and their family, Kenneth Workman and wife Gail Workman and their family and Charles Workman. Nieces; Sylvia Gail Caulder and husband Ken Caulder and their family, Glenda Workman and her son, Sherri Battalliga and husband Mark and their family, Billi Jo Myers and husband Greg Myers and their family. Along with other nieces nephew, friends and caregivers. She is predeceased by four brothers Grady Commodore Workman, James Cyrus Workman, Wayne Bernard Workman, William Darrell Workman. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Charleston. The relatives and friends of Doris W. Mellard are invited to attend her Requiem Mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Church of the Holy Communion. The committal will be held in St. James Church, Goose Creek.
