Doris B. Boyd

Doris B. Boyd, 84, widow of Richard H. Boyd Sr., entered into eternal life Thursday, August 27, 2015. The relatives and friends of Doris B. Boyd are invited to attend her Funeral Service 2:00 PM Sunday, August 30, 2015 from the sanctuary of Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road. The family will receive friends between 5:00 & 7:00 PM Saturday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. Born on September 27, 1930 in Columbia, SC, Doris was a daughter of the late Lula Mae Wrenn & William Roscoe Byrd. She graduated from Columbia High School, and served for many years in the Charleston Co. Public School System as an assistant librarian. An active member of Ashley River Baptist Church, Doris was especially gifted at teaching a Sunday School class for special needs adults. A caring, loving, and selfless woman, the center of Doris' life was her family. She never missed an opportunity to cook, send cards, and write the family Christmas letter. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Doris is survived by her 2 Daughters: Sherri Peterman and husband Greg, Sonja Muckenfuss and husband Carl; 1 Son, Richey Boyd and wife Shannon; 7 Grandchildren: Sarah Peterman Robbins, Sommer Peterman, Corey Muckenfuss, Blythe Boyd, Hunter Boyd, Parker Boyd, & Riley Boyd; 1 Great-grandchild, Abraham Robbins; 1 Sister, Syble Romanstine, and a host of loving family and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Vera Riley, and her granddaughter, Chloe Boyd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church to support ongoing work in East Africa.
