Donna S. Harvey

Donna S. Harvey of Summerville, SC, wife of David J. Harvey of Summerville, and a retired Respiratory Therapist at MUSC, entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2015. Donna was the daughter of Charles Leland Smith and June D. Smith of Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. David J. Harvey are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Friday, September 11, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited at 6:45 PM. Donna was born in Charleston, and graduated from Bishop England High School, where she was a cheerleader. She went on to graduate from Trident Technical College. She enjoyed her 28 years as a Respiratory Therapist in the Neonatal Unit at MUSC, retiring in the early part of 2012. It is a testament to the kind of person she was that many of her co-workers and students have spoken of her as a wonderful mentor and teacher, but also as a great friend. Donna loved to travel with her husband David, and was partial to Notre Dame and South Carolina football, as well as any team of Peyton Manning. She loved the Christmas season, enjoying the many large family gatherings during this time. She was an avid runner, had a great love for her animals, and would travel practically anywhere for a good Dave Matthews concert. She was painstakingly concerned with promptness, a rare trait in the Smith family, and was an occasional "loud" soccer fan, especially while watching her daughter and many nephews play the sport. She was loved by all and enjoyed being with people. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and June Smith. She is survived by her husband David, her daughter Sara Ksenzak Halperin (Amy), her five brothers, Charles L. Smith, Jr. (Beth) of Ravenel, SC, Dr. David K. Smith (Patty) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Rev. Mark J. Smith (Lynette) of Leesville, SC, Gregory L. Smith (Kathleen) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Stephen B. Smith (Deborah) of Greenville, SC, a sister, Karen S. Moshtaghi (Mohammad) of Daniel Island, SC, and Sara's father and former husband, Ralph Ksenzak. She also has 18 nieces, nephews, and step-nephews. The family would also like to give thanks for the tireless help of the Hospice of Charleston workers Tamra and Nicole.
