Donald Francis Nichols, 56, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at his residence after a three year battle with cancer. He left this life surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born on November 2, 1956, in Charleston, the third son of the late James V. (Vic) Nichols, Sr. and Mary Bea Cotten Nichols. Donald attended Catholic elementary schools, Bishop England and Middleton High Schools. He later took several courses connected to his work in the construction industry. Donald was a loving and caring husband, father and brother. He enjoyed fishing, vacationing at Edisto Island and attending Tristan's football and baseball games, the latter of which he helped coach. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gina Beckman Nichols and his adoring children: Melissa Ann Nichols, Kelsey Maria Nichols and Tristan Amari Gerideau, as well as his beloved dog, Bonez. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard M. Nichols and Robert A. Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, James V. Nichols, Jr. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Nichols are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at St. John's Catholic Church, 3921 St. John's Ave, North Charleston. The Rite of Committal will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, on Tuesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
