Charleston - Dessie Manning Davis, age 89 passed away at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She was born in Charleston, SC on Wednesday, January 17, 1923 to the late James Robert Manning and Bevvie Orvin Manning. Dessie is preceded in death by her husband of seventy-one years, Alexander William Davis; two sisters, Mary Manning Kirby and Bevvie Manning Popivchak and two brothers James Robert Manning, Jr and Thomas Orvin Manning. Dessie was a loving, generous person that never met a stranger and dedicated her life doing for others. She put her heart and soul into everything she did. Dessie was a member and a deaconess at the First Christian Church that she loved. She and her husband had fish fries at their home for church members. Throughout the years she gave elderly people a ride to church. She loved to garden, knit, sew and crochet. Dessie especially enjoyed playing cards. She will be dearly missed by her family. and is survived by her sons, William (Bill) Davis and James (Jim) Davis and his wife, Holly; her daughters, Cynthia (Cyndi) McDaniel and her husband, Ronald (Ron) McDaniel and Jeanne Xanthacos; ten grandchildren: Brian Davis, Keith McDaniel, Amy Calkins and her husband, Craig, Chelsea Mikel and her husband, Danny, Damon Pye and his wife, Amanda, Alisha Murphy and her husband, Sean, Jeremy Morrow and his wife, Lauren, Justin McDaniel and his wife, Alyson, Tiffany Davis and Ashley Davis, seven great grandchildren Brooke Calkins, Holden Mikel, Kiesrten Calkins, Hudson Pye, Madi McDaniel, Madelyn Pye, and Bella McDaniel; her brother, Robert Edward Manning and his wife, Delores and her sister, Theresa Manning Presnell and her husband, Pat. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The relatives and friends of Dessie Manning Davis are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Friday, February 24, 2012, at The First Christian Church Orange Grove Rd. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends this Thursday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A.
