A devoted and loving husband and father, was called home after a sudden illness on February 14, 2019. John was born in Pahokee, Florida on May 26, 1965, to Gladus Louise Fertic and Dennis Paul Ulichnie. He was raised on James Island by his loving Aunt and Uncle, Lois and Lisle Ulichnie. He graduated from Fort Johnson High School and was a member of The Church of the Nativity.
John had a heart of gold which he gave to his devoted wife, April Martel Ulichnie. This proud father is survived by his six children: Ashley Ulichnie, Tate Ulichnie, Orin Ulichnie, Connor Martel, Kyle Ulichnie and Collin Ulichnie and one adorable grandson, Jaden Ulichnie.
A mystery to many was the value John placed on his family, a virtue he undoubtedly learned from his Aunt and Uncle and his many cousins. He was extremely proud of his children’s accomplishments and was very protective of their welfare. His love extended to his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A viewing for John has been scheduled on February 21, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at James McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. A formal mass will be held on February 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Nativity, 1061 Folly Road, James Island. Father S. Thomas Kingsley will celebrate the mass. A reception for friends and family will follow the mass at the family home, 3380 Field Planters Road, Johns Island.
Never leave “I love you” unsaid.
