Delia Reynolds, 88, of Charleston passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones. Delia was the daughter of Edgar A. and Elizabeth Long Smith. She graduated from Memminger School and Rice Business College. In high school, Delia served on student council, was voted “best looking” by her classmates, and later took the stage in the Miss Charleston pageant and was named first runner up. After graduating from Rice, Delia worked in local radio. She was one of seven loving sisters.
In 1956, Delia married John Julius Reynolds Sr. (Jack) in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Jack adored her and the couple reared five children: John J. Reynolds. Jr. (deceased), Catherine Biasello, Sarah Haig, Grace Fielding, and Eric Reynolds. She was grandmother to eight grandchildren: Caroline Mrlik, Sarah Sprague, Alessandra Biasello, Matthew Haig, Michael Biasello, Katharine (Livy) Reynolds, Julius Reynolds, Edgar Reynolds, and one great-grandchild, Aaron Condon. She is also survived by one sister, Patricia Pinckney.
Delia obtained her real estate license and worked for several Charleston real estate firms. She was an avid gardener, an excellent, cook, and a member of Cathedral St. John the Baptist. She and Jack enjoyed traveling and among her favorite trips were cruises aboard the QEII. Ireland was among her favorite destinations. She loved spending time with her family at the beach, hosting many card games at her home with the “ladies from the Cathedral, and answering trivia questions.
The family offers its most sincere gratitude for the kindness extended to Delia as she neared the end of her life. Most special thanks to Shawna Fichter, Shamika Braddy, Jennifer Funkhouser, and Father Mark Cooke, all of Amedisys Hospice.
A Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, Monday, November 29, 2021at James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. A private burial for the family will be held the following day at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Charleston.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Julian E. Smith III Pediatric Oncology Endowment MUSC Foundation, in care of MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund, 59 Bee St., MSC 201, Charleston SC 29425.
