Deborah Hoppmann

May 22, 1951 — December 9, 2025

Deborah Eslick Hoppmann, of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, received her heavenly reward on December 9, 2025.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:00 PM, Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening, to celebrate her life at the James A McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston.

Debbie was born May 22, 1951, in Pulaski, Tennessee to JL and Margaret Eslick. She was a graduate of Giles County High School, class of 1969.

Debbie was first, and foremost, a wonderful mother to Kelly, Katie and David. She would move a mountain for her kids. While living in Alabama, Debbie might see three ballgames, one for each kid, in three different towns, on the same day.

She was also a skilled artisan around any craft that included a needle. She taught countless Lowcountry people sewing, cross-stitching, smocking, quilting, French Hand Sewing, Candlewicking, and other skills. She was past president of the local chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America and past president of the local Quilters Guild.

Debbie was also a Certified Master Gardener under the Clemson University program and was a volunteer who helped many callers learn to keep things green and growing.

Debbie was an instructor at the Christ Our King-Stella Maris Vacation Bible School and co-chair (with Tim) of the school bazaar. She also was a kindergarten teacher at O'Quinn School.

She loved being around her kids, especially as they grew older. She proved she could "hang" from New Orleans to Midtown Manhattan.

Debbie is predeceased by her dad, JL Eslick Sr. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Tim; her daughters, Kelly Murray (Kenneth), Katie Hoppmann (Julian) and her son, David (Julia); her brother, John Eslick (Terry) and her mother, Margaret Eslick. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bennett Murray, Levi Hoppmann and Indy Rose Hoppmann.

Debbie fought hard for 13 years against Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
