David Lowe Forbes III, 75, husband of Cynthia Cope Forbes of Charleston, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 13, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston. The Rite of Committal will be private. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM Monday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM.
"Dave" was born August 1, 1950 in Akron, OH, to the late Barbara Ann Dye and David Lowe Forbes, Jr. Dave grew up overseas - India, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines, graduating from the American School in Manila in 1969, where he met his future wife. He attended Texas Christian University and the University of Akron.
Dave was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and formerly Nativity Catholic Church and a member of its School Board.
He was involved in many sports during his life and had a great love of golf in particular. Dave coached the Bishop England High School Golf Team for many years.
Dave was an entrepreneur of various businesses, from restaurants and a bakery, to a Golf School for professional golfers. He has owned businesses in the Charleston City Market for over 30 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cynthia Cope Forbes; 3 children: David Lowe Forbes IV (Erin Byrnes); Lesley Nicole Kirker (Evan); and Colin Andrew Forbes (Nicole). He was a loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren: Lincoln and Arena Forbes, Grace and Baylor Kirker, and Eleanor, Levi and Evelyn Forbes.
Dave was a well-respected man and a generous and loving person. He was a dedicated family man, always placing his family before all else. He sought joy in life and gave that joy to others! He will be truly missed.
