David Michael Blanchard, age 66, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015. . The relatives and friends of David M. Blanchard are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 19 at 10:30 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rite of Committal at St. Lawrence Cemetery, will be private.The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. David was an excellent drummer, having played since the age of four, and played in several local bands over the years. He also refurbished and refinished furniture. David was born in Charleston on December 26, 1948 to the late Claude Wright Blanchard, Sr. and Helena Igoe (Nellie) Blanchard of Fenwick Hall Plantation on John's Island. He graduated from Carlisle Military School in 1967 and attended The Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern University). He was active in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. Besides his parents, David was predeceased by is five brothers; Claude Wright, Jr., James Edward (Ned), Robert Igoe, Paul Eugene and Charles Comar Blanchard; also his brother-in-law Fred McKay, sister-in-law Mary Santos Blanchard and nephews Kevin and Mark Blanchard. Mr. Blanchard is survived by his daughter Rebecca Lyons (Carlton), his son David Blanchard, Jr., his grandchildren, Wesley Muir, Morgan Muir, Lawrence Muir, Casey Blanchard, Jordan Blanchard and a great grandson, Jackson Douglas Deloach. Mr. Blanchard is also survived by his only sister Helena Blanchard McKay Vivona (Dominic), his sisters-in-law, Betty Blanchard and Kathy Blanchard in addition to many nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
