Entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 30, 2009, Daniel Ernest Nolan, Sr., husband of Dorothy Bentz Nolan, of Charleston, SC. Mr. Nolan was born in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of John Francis and Anna Cecilia Hilbert Nolan on Monday, February 18, 1924. He was a graduate of Epiphany High School and attended the College of Charleston. Mr. Nolan was a member of the V.F.W. Post on James Island and the Elk's Lodge. He honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. Mr. Nolan was a Pattern Maker and retired after many years of faithful service from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He loved his children and grandchildren, bringing smiles to all in his own special way. He was always willing to help, no matter the sacrifice of his own time. His talent for woodmaking and the visual arts was shared with many over the years. "Most of all, he loved his best friend and sweetheart of over 60 years, Dorothy." He is survived by his wife Dorothy B. Nolan, three children: Daniel E. Nolan, Jr. and his wife, Jan, of John's Island, Kathleen N. Julian and her husband, Glenn, of Easley, SC, Cindy N. Tecklenburg and her husband, Paul, of James Island; three brothers, William C. Nolan, Ralph Nolan, Sr. and Ralph Nolan, Jr.; a sister, Nancy N. Welsh; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mr. Nolan was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Anne Whitsett. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Nolan, Sr. are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Burial will be at St. John's Parish Episcopal Churchyard, 3673 Maybank Hwy, John's Island. The family will receive friends at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, this Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
