Daniel Scott (Scotty) Boinest, 64, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and shall be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM Wednesday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date.
Scotty was born on November 23, 1961, as the second son of Chesta and Edward H. (Ted) Boinest, Jr. Known to many by various nicknames such as "Danny", "Bistro", and "Scotty B", Scott was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, master carpenter, and never met a fish he couldn't catch. His love for animals was infectious.
Scott worked in the construction business his entire career until his illness forced him to scale back and begin his battle. His optimism, even when faced with an inevitable outcome, was remarkable. His sense of humor never left him.
Scott loved the Gamecocks, the Falcons, the Braves, and that awesome sportscar affectionally known as "Little Red". When he would pull up in Little Red, wearing his driving chapeau, it just made you smile! He knew how to have fun.
Scott is survived by his loving wife Karen, son Miles, his brothers Edward (Michelle), and Richard, uncle Terry "TA" Adams, Sr. (Sandra), sister-in-law Lucia Boinest, nephews Chip Boinest, Jimi Boinest, and Ladson Boinest, nieces Haley Hughett (Joseph), Caroline Boinest, Lucy Boinest and great nephews Wyatt and Hunter Hughett along with cherished cousins Stacey Cooke (Kip), Elizabeth Marshall (Blake), and John Komlosy (Leslee), Terry Adams, Jr. (Gina), Cameron Adams (Michael Palmshe), and his faithful fur baby, Mitch. Scotty also loved his 2 special "gal-pals", Linda Thomas and Paula McNamara.
Scott was predeceased by his parents, brother Alex, sister-in-law Claire Boinest, and his in-laws, Marguerite and Jack Stubbs and Kip Kibler.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Scott's memory to the MUSC-Hollings Cancer Center or to a charity of one's choosing.
