On Saturday August 6, 2022, D. Wyatt Nettles, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 83. Like his wife Betty, Wyatt passed away at home while being comforted by his family and closest friends.
Wyatt worked for over 50 years in banking, primarily as a consumer loan officer. During his career he was a Regional Vice President of First Federal of South Carolina and served as a member of the Rotary Club. He retired as a Vice President from Southtrust Bank in 2004. Wyatt also served for four years in the National Guard.
Wyatt and his wife Betty shared a joyful marriage of 61 years. Together with their children and later their grandchildren, they all enjoyed years of weekend fun, usually out on the boat on the waters around Charleston. They were either waterskiing, exploring islands or getting caught in thunderstorms and hitting sandbars. The family also enjoyed many years of adventures at their lake house on Lake Marion in Eutawville, SC. Wyatt also loved golfing with his son and closest friends. You were sure to find one of Wyatt’s beloved pets, Herschel, Toby, Belle or Xena, right by his side.
Wyatt was preceded in death by his father, Emile Buzzhardt “E.B.” Nettles; his mother, Kathryn A. Nettles and his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Nettles.
He is survived by his son, Jeff; his daughter, Betsy Bowers; his grandson, Danny and his wife Magan; his granddaughter, Elllie and great-grandchildren, Jake and Paisley, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
