Corrie Harper Duffy, 83, wife of James E. Duffy and mother of Jimmy, Charles, Billy and Framp entered eternal rest on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2017. The friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Duffy are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 28, 2017, at St. Timothy's Anglican Catholic Church. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, Sunday aftenoon at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Corrie was born in Rock Hill, SC on June 23, 1934, the daughter of Charles Leland and Lettie Greene Harper. Early in life she and her family moved to York, SC where she spent her childhood and teen years. She graduated from York High School in 1952. Upon completion of high school, she attended and graduated from Winthrop College in 1956, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education & Childhood Development. Following graduation, for one year she taught elementary school in Houston, TX. Corrie returned to Charleston in 1957 where she was employed by Charleston County Social Services, primarily managing child care and welfare. In 1959 Corrie met her future husband, Jimmy, and on her 25th birthday June 23, 1959, they became engaged. On December 5, 1959, they were married in the Chapel of the Oratory Fathers in Rock Hill, SC. The first of four sons, Jimmy was born December 1, 1960, followed by Charles on November 7, 1961, Billy on March 15, 1964, and Framp on March 26, 1965. The greatest tragedy of nearly 58 years of blissful marriage was the passing of our beautiful son, Billy, on May 28, 1964. Following the birth of our first son, Corrie assumed the duties of a “stay at home mom” raising our sons to be the loving, caring, respectful and successful gentlemen that they are today. After all her boys were in full day school she returned to her teaching career. For the next 20 years she taught at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School from where she retired in 1992. Corrie loved teaching the children and during these years she made many lifetime friends. Corrie enjoyed cooking, gardening and thoroughly enjoyed her monthly bridge club get together for a game and refreshments. With her husband and friends, she regularly attended the Dock Street and Footlight plays and Citadel football games. However, the most joyful things in her life were loving and caring for her husband and sons. She will always be our “Queen B”. In addition to her husband and three sons, Corrie is survived by four grandchildren, Jimmy III, Brittany Anne, Madeleine and Kayleigh and three daughters-in-law, Luann, Lisa and Elizabeth, all of whom loved her dearly. Also, two sisters, Lettie Knight and Binnie McGarity; one brother, Frampton Harper and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Corrie was a charter member of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church which she served and supported for many years and where lifelong friendships developed. On behalf of Corrie and her family, we would like to thank the doctors and nursing staffs at both Roper-St. Francis and East Cooper Hospitals for their loving care, kindness and understanding during the days of her recent illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, 1900 Parsonage Road, Charleston, SC 29414 or to the charity of one’s choice.
