Copeland Hendrix

Emory Copeland Hendrix, 92, passed away March 15, 2022.

The relatives and friends of Copeland Hendrix are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston.  Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery, 10 Cunnington Ave, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Copeland was born August 13,1929, in Marion, SC a son of the late Leroy and Eva Copeland Hendrix. He moved to Charleston with his family in 1941, graduated from Charleston High School in 1946 and attended Rice Business College. Copeland retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Company after 47 years of faithful service as supervisor of customer services.

Copeland was on the board of the Charleston Civic Ballet Company, where he served as Treasurer. For many years Copeland played the role of "Mother Ginger" in the annual production of "The Nutcracker". His comical performance elicited gales of laughter from the audience . . . especially from the children. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church.

Copeland is survived by his nephews, Hammond Hendrix (Joan) and Franklin Hendrix, both of Austin, TX and Douglas Hendrix (Arlene) of Bend, OR. He is also survived by a number of cousins including Emily McKeithan of Southport, NC, Marshall Copeland of Charlotte, NC and Rick Williams of Kershaw, SC.

In addition to his parents, Copeland was preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas Norman Hendrix, Herman Leroy Hendrix and Franklin Delano Hendrix and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cox Hendrix and Jean Hendrix. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends, including Bethel, Old Windermere, SCE&G, Symphony and Ballet friends. All will miss his kindness and wisdom.
