Claudia Del Mas Umphlet

Claudia del Mas Umphlet, daughter of Claude Raymond del Mas and Jewell Theresa del Mas, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 12, 2022.

Claudia was born in Long Beach, California on December 30, 1958, one of 6 children.

She graduated from Bishop England High School and began her lifelong work caring for animals. Her love of animals led her to begin work in animal research, at which she excelled. She specialized in neuropathology and her work was published in various medical articles and magazines.

Claudia was a loving mother and grandmother. She was well known for her kind and gentle nature. She had a gracious and compassionate heart, always putting others before herself. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, boat rides, and caring for her various pets.

She is survived by her only son, Dillard Umphlet (Ashley), her only grandchild, Matthew Umphlet, her father, Claude del Mas, and her 5 siblings: Bobby del Mas (Rose, deceased), Bruce del Mas (Emily), Denise Oliver (Tim), Jeff del Mas (Michele) and Claude del Mas, Jr. (Janet).

She is predeceased by her mother, Jewell del Mas and sister-in-law Rose del Mas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11 o’clock in the morning. The Rite of Committal will be private.
