Claudia Mae Sweatman Sturcken entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 5, 2019.
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Claudia S. Sturcken are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 12, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 3:00 and 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
Mrs. Sturcken was born in Charleston on September 18, 1927, a daughter of Gussie Huey and Annie Ruth Sweatman. Mrs. Sturcken worked as an EKG Technician at Charleston County Hospital where she retired. During her 20 years at Charleston County Hospital she shared her smile and kind spirit with everyone she came in contact with. She was most proud of her 62 years of marriage to her husband William Francis Sturcken and her 9 children. Mrs. Sturcken loved the outdoors, and spent many days exploring the backroads of the Lowcountry with her husband. Her hobbies included gardening, bird watching and the beach. She will be remembered for her strong faith, kind spirit and generous heart.
She is survived by her children, Naomi Elizabeth Brawner, William F. Sturcken, Jr., Thomas H. Sturcken, Mary Ellen DelRose, Linda Diane Monaghan, Kelly Sturcken Fellows, Billie Joe McKenzie, Tammy Idell Breeden; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grand children; a sister in law, Phyllis Ann Cumbee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Sturcken, Sr. and a son, Michael Joseph Sturcken.
