Chris was born in Charleston, SC, on February 21, 1954. She was the daughter of the late L.D. and Bette Howell and the youngest of six children. She graduated from Middleton High School and was a very proud full-time homemaker, mother and grandmother. Additionally, she worked for a few years as a bookkeeper for a local orthodontist.
Chris married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life and they enjoyed and were blessed with almost 49 years together. Together, they enjoyed raising their three children and six grandchildren. Chris never missed her children’s math competitions, dance recitals, ball games or jazz concerts. Additionally, she attended hundreds of gigs of her favorite local band, The Gin House Boys.
Chris was happiest spending time with her family and friends. She loved entertaining and she loved to be entertained. While sometimes quiet and unassuming, Chris always managed to light up a room with her infectious smile and contagious laughter. A lifelong barefoot devotee of Folly Beach, Chris and her husband spent many early mornings walking in the sand and watching the sun rise. She loved music most of all and never shied away from singing or dancing. Chris was a proud member of the Church of the Nativity.
Chris is survived by her husband, Jim; her three children, Jennifer Howell Fisher-Bowman (Jennifer), Rebecca Quill Fisher, and John Lawrence Fisher (Tai); and her brother John (Johnny) Howell (Dawn). She was blessed with six grandchildren: Fisher Morton, Charlie Morton, Lucy Fisher-Bowman, Josh Fisher-Bowman, Emma Fisher. She was predeceased by her grandson Sam Sustek. Chris was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Cecilia (Celie) H. Hayes, Lawrence D. (Bubba) Howell, Jr., Cynthia (Cindy) H. Nettles and Martha (Marti) H. Turner.
The family deeply appreciates all of Chris’ caregivers at the MUSC Institute of Psychiatry’s Senior Care Unit and the Agape Hospice. Chris will be deeply missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the MUSC Foundation and earmarked for the Chris Fisher Memorial Fund (18 Bee Street MSC 450 Charleston, SC 29425). For online gifts to the memorial fund: Chris Fisher .
