Charlie Duscheque

May 16, 2012 — March 3, 2015

Entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, Charlie C. Duscheque, widow of Chester J. Duscheque. The relatives and friends of Charlie C. Duscheque are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2015, at the James A. McAlister Chapel. Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy this Thursday evening between 5:00 and 7:00 PM. Her guestbook may be signed at www.JamesAMcAlister.com Charlie was a remarkable woman living in her two story home alone until her death at 102. Ever independent, she insisted her bedroom remain upstairs. Charlie and her husband, Chester Duscheque owned the once well known Sands Restaurant. For over 80 years she was a hairdresser who owned and operated the West Ashley Beauty Shop. Charlie and Chester moved from West Ashley when they purchased the Bulow Mines Plantation, a place they enjoyed until the beautiful home burned. Charlie was born in Edgefield on May 16, 1912 to Charles Henry Cobia and Fanny Belle Burton Cobia. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Madeline Cobia Corley. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Prince Pettersen (Captain Theodore Pettersen), two granddaughters, Sandra Pettersen Jackson (Andy), Cynthia Aileen Thrower (Bill) and four great grandchildren: Ashley and Will Jackson, and Mary Beth and William Thrower. Charlie was a charter member of the Ashley River Baptist Church when it moved from Citadel Square Baptist. What a believer she was. She loved her Church. The old saying described her perfectly: "When the doors were open, she was there". Charlie so loved her family; however small it was, she had so much love and respect for them all. She was smart, sharp and sassy! She was a proud member of the Rebecca Mott Chapter of the National Society of The Daughters of The American Revolution, The Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, The National Society of Magna Carta Dames, The Sovereign Colonial Society of Americans with Royal Descent, The United Daughters of the Confederacy and The Huguenot Society of South Carolina. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., N. Charleston, SC 29406. Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc. 766-1365
