Charlie (Charles) Chaplin Cellars, 80, of Charleston, died August 9, 2013. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 6-7:30 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. Funeral Services will be private. Charlie was born October 1, 1932, in Sylamore, Arkansas to the late Josie Maybelle Cellars and Samuel W. Cellars, Sr. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Anita Sue Cellars; his sister, Jearlene Hunter; brothers, Robert Cellars and Samuel Cellars Jr. He is survived by his son, Charles Michael "Mike" Cellars (Karen), of James Island and daughter, Mary Diane Govers, of Australia. In addition to his son and daughter, he is survived by 6 grandchildren, Michael P. Cellars of Charleston, Jennifer "Jenny" L. Damewood (Stratton), of Charleston, Matthew T. Cellars (Katie Byrd) of North Charleston, Mark A. Cellars (Alison) of North Charleston, Cameron Govers of American Fork, Utah, and Ian Govers of American Fork, Utah. He also has a great-grandson, Aiden M. Damewood, of Charleston, and a newborn great-granddaughter, Eliza A. Cellars, of North Charleston. Charlie was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force and served 21 years. He enlisted in 1947 serving both in Korea and Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Korean War Service Medal. His last duty station was in Charleston. After retiring from the Air Force in 1968, he went to work for the United States Postal Service where he also served 20 years until he retired in 1988. Charlie was active in the Postal Workers Union and held several management positions. In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed working with his hands fixing anything that was broken and found his passion in researching his ancestry. This was done the old fashion way before computers. He spent many hours going through census records, writing letters for information and visiting cemeteries.
