Charles Martin Parker

May 18, 1930 — October 23, 2016

Charles M. 'Pops' Parker, Sr., 86, of Charleston, husband of JoAnn S. Parker, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016, with his devoted wife, daughter and granddaughter by his side. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Parker, Sr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407. The Rite of Committal will be private. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, October 25, 2016, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Chuck was born in Patterson, New Jersey on May 18, 1930. He was the son of the late Charles and Josephine Alfano DelConte. He attended both Catholic and public schools while in Patterson. Chuck was a proud Retired United States Navy Veteran and served in the Korean War and was awarded many commendation medals for his service. He was a retired lead mechanic with vehicle maintenance for the US Postal service as well, but his true passion was evident in his love and involvement with his family, proudly coaching four generations of his own family, receiving a jacket awarded to him by St. Andrews Parks and Playgrounds for his faithful coaching from 1965 until 2002, and serving as the Bishop England Band Booster President. He took charge of keeping up with the rosary gardens at St. Mary's on Yonges Island and many of his days were spent caring not only for his own yard, but for others who were unable to care for their own. His selflessness and devotion were evident in all things he did, but his true devotion was to the love of his life, Jodie. They were the love of each others lives and were each others everything. They enjoyed their travels together and mostly taking care of all their children and grandchildren . They shared 62 loving years of strength and endurance that lasted their entire life together, all the way up to his very last breath. Chuck is survived by his wife of 62 wonderful years, Jodie; his sons, Charles M. Parker, Jr. and Jeffrey J. Parker; daughter, Raeh Ann Parker; grandchildren, Charles M. Parker III, Bonnie L. MCCaskill Vass, Melissa R. McCaskill and Jesse A. Parker, as well as his great grandchildren, Collin and Cayden Vass, Bradley Pacetti and McKenzie Bowman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Argentieri and Charles DelConte, Jr., his sisters, Eva Forino and Flora Paulison, and a great grandson, Nathan O'Neil Pacetti. The family would like to extend their thank to Dr. Elizabeth Christian and her staff, and the nursing staff at the infusion and chemo lab at Bon Secours St. Francis Hematology for going above and beyond. Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Father McCarthy Education Fund, C/O Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
