Cdr. Thomas Howard Wood, USN (Ret.), entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Wood was born on Tuesday, April 22, 1930, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to the late Joseph Howard Wood and Adele Elizabeth Whitacre Wood. He attended the U.S. Naval Reserve Officer Candidate School, Kent State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, and the U.S. Naval Destroyer Engineering School. Mr. Wood was a Commander in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He was also formerly employed with Trident Technical College in the Manpower Skill Center as an assistant director and also Assistant to the Vice President. Tom was a member of the Elks Lodge for over 20 years, a member of the Rifle Club, loved to golf, bowl and travel. He was loved and cherished by his family and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Jeannene Ondrasek and her husband Dennis, son Joseph Wood, his grandchildren; David Richard and his wife Erin, Rosa Armstead and her Husband Doug, Aubrey Ondrasek, and his 5 great-grandchildren; Rhyan, Dylan, Jackson, Julianna and Sophia. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Wood are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway. Burial in Beaufort National Cemetery will be on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. The family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the funeral home. Mr. Woods' guest book may be signed at www.charlestonfunerals.com.
