Catherine "Kit" LeaMond Dunlap, 87, of Charleston, entered eternal rest on Friday, September 19, 2025. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, and her presence will be deeply missed. Kit was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on September 3, 1938, to Frederick Julian and Catherine Dowling LeaMond. She dedicated her life to her family and her passion as a registered nurse whose career spanned over 50 years. Kit's infectious laughter and loving spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Kit graduated from St Francis Xavier Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She was a proud Charlestonian who could captivate many with stories of growing up the "Holy City" in her native dialect and expressions that would leave folks mesmerized. Living in the South Carolina Lowcountry shaped her into the woman she would always be: genteel, kind, gentle (yet strong), selfless, altruistic, effortless to love, and with whom you could become a lifelong friend. Kit truly thought of others before herself, always.
A devout Catholic, her faith was always a center of her strength and a focus of her life. She had a steadfast love of God and Church, performed countless acts of charity and service, and was unwaveringly committed to Catholic teachings. She initially considered a holy life as a novice before deciding on a nursing career where she could dedicate herself to serving patients with compassion and dignity.
Kit is survived by her sons, Paul Dunlap of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Michael Dunlap (Randi) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and her beloved grandchildren, Heidi, Wyatt, and Ava. She was predeceased by her son, David.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC. The family receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home.
The family requests consideration of a donation to the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org) in Kit's memory.
