Carole Anne White

Carole Anne White passed peacefully at home on July 14, 2026, while praying the Rosary with her family.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 PM, Monday, July 20, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 60 Huguenin Avenue. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Sunday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM.

Carole was born on January 12, 1944, She was the daughter of the late Leland James White, Sr. and Rose Winifred Budds White. Sharing her father's birthday, she was often fondly referred to by him as the "best birthday gift" he ever received.

Carole graduated from Cathedral Grammar School and Bishop England High School (Class of 1962). She entered the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy in 1962, where she began her career in education, serving schools throughout the Diocese of Charleston as well as in Middlesex and Gibbstown, New Jersey. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Glassboro State College in Glassboro, New Jersey, and a Master of Science in Education from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York.

As a lifelong educator, Carole served as a teacher and principal in Catholic schools throughout South Carolina and New Jersey. She was responsible for opening Summerville Catholic School and serving there for over 13 years. Carole left Summerville Catholic to fulfill her dream to open a school with a uniquely inclusive environment-one that embraced traditional and non-traditional students in small classroom settings, welcoming children of all ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds. She accomplished this beautiful dream as principal of St. John Catholic School and served there for 17 years. Her legacy lives on not only at St. John Catholic School but also in the Options Program at Bishop England High School for students with special needs, as well as the REACH program at the College of Charleston. Carole's legacy ensures that every child's individual needs can be met within the fabric of a Catholic education. She firmly believed that every child could learn in their own way and in their own time. She influenced not only students but parents as well, who to this day talk about what she gave to them.

Carole continued her dedication to her faith by becoming a member of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy Associates Program, bearing witness to what it means to be committed to the Gospel mission of Christ as she embraced a humble life of simplicity, peace and love for all.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, as well as four of her nine siblings: Leland James White, Jr., Charles deVineau (Devie) White, Francis Dalton White, and Cathy White Seyle, as well as her sister-in-law, Dianne Parker White.

Carole is survived by her sisters, Rose Mary Ryan, Elaine Roff (Bill), and Winifred Dworschak (Manfred); her brothers, John A. White (Lydia) and Stephen J. White (Tina); as well as 24 loving nieces and nephews, and 32 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
