Brenda was born on August 7, 1940, in Charleston, South Carolina, and departed this life peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories. She was a stunning Southern Belle, not only known for her radiant beauty but for the warmth and kindness she extended to everyone she met.
Brenda graduated from St. Andrews High School in 1958, where her charm and spirit sparked admiration, leading her to be crowned Miss North Charleston the same year. Her early years were filled with laughter and adventure, spending delightful days with family in Georgetown, SC, and on Sullivan's Island at her grandfather's house. These moments nurtured a love for family that remained a driving force throughout her life.
In 1958, Brenda married the love of her life, Hoap, and together they created a vibrant family in Northbridge Terrace, raising five wonderful children: Susan, Hoap "Chip" III, Mark, George, and Kathy. A founding member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Brenda's faith was an integral part of her identity, and she instilled the importance of family values in her children. With only six years between her oldest and youngest, she kept everyone close, embodying the spirit of togetherness.
Growing up, Brenda spent many summers with her cousins in Georgetown, or at her grandfather's home on Sullivans Island. She was extra close to her cousin Peggy Easterling Wilson. The two were like sisters. Brenda's passion for dancing, especially The Shag, brought joy to her life. She often could be found dancing on the pier at Folly Beach with Hoap, where the joyous spirit and rhythm of the ocean complemented her vibrant personality. Family vacations, whether to the majestic mountains of North Carolina or sunny spots in Florida and Texas, were filled with laughter and adventure, thanks to Brenda's spirit of fun. Camping trips with the Towne and Surrette families became treasured traditions, forging lifelong friendships and bonds.
Professionally, Brenda had a rich career, beginning at First Citizen's Bank in downtown Charleston, followed by her role as an administrative assistant to the VP of the North America division at Robert Bosch. Alongside Hoap, she became the proud co-owner of Reeves BBQ in West Ashley, where their culinary talents and hard work led to a beloved and successful restaurant that served the community for many years.
Brenda was the absolute Best mom and mother-in-law imaginable. She treated her in-laws like her own. She was also the best sister to her brother, Roger Walker and sister, Margie Limbaker. Brenda had an innate gift for making others feel like family; she became a second mom to many of her children's friends and a beloved "MaMa" to every child who crossed her path. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each holding a special place in her heart. There was no greater joy for Brenda than being surrounded by her "grands," making everyday moments feel like celebrations of life, love, and family.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lowcountry Community Hospice House for their exceptional love and care during her final days. Also, to Susan and George, You both did so much over the last few years taking extra care of mom. We Love you so much for watching over her! She made her home with Susan and George, who cared for her daily with unwavering devotion. Chip, Mark, and Kathy were also deeply involved in her care, ensuring she was surrounded by love and support from all of her children. Brenda's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her, and her legacy of kindness, love, and the joy of family will forever be celebrated.
Brenda was preceded in death her husband Hoap Reeves, parents George and Margaret Walker, her son Mark Reeves, and her sister Margie Limbaker.
