Bobby Phipps, Sr., 84, of Charleston, SC passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, while in Hospice Comfort Care with his loving daughter, Karen by his side.
The relatives and friends of Bobby Phipps, Sr. are invited to attend his Memorial Service, at 3:00 PM, Monday, February 17, 2025 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Bobby was born on June 23, 1940, in Loris, SC, a son of the late Ethel Hooks and Ed Phipps.
Bobby graduated from Rivers High School, class of 1959 and from Bailey Technical College in St. Louis, MO. He worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired after 29 years of faithful service as an inspector.
Sport fishing was Bobby's passion. He excelled in fishing tournaments throughout the lowcountry and the Bahamas with his good friend, Ira Bloom. His mechanical expertise and having a Captain's License for navigating vessels was a benefit.
In earlier years, Bobby could be found at the Charleston Yacht Club with his Pabst Blue Ribbon in hand, sitting in his favorite chair at the bar. He enjoyed being around the water with his friends. The serenity of being on or around the water was as good as it got.
Another happy place for Bobby was the Bodiford family lake home where almost every weekend was spent. He looked forward to weekends there with his wife, Joann and sister and brother-in-law.
