Betty Virginia Jackson, 86, of James Island entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 28, 2012. Betty was born in LaGrange, GA in 1926 to John and Lillie Snow Fling. She grew up with 17 brothers and sisters who were very close and always looked after each other. She enjoyed playing on the basketball team for Troop County High School in the 1940s. In 1946 she moved to Charleston and went to work at F.W. Woolworths. Here she married James F. Starks. She worked for 10 years at Charleston Manufacturing Company. Betty retired from K Mart Corporation in 2005. She was a loving mother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is pre-deceased by her son James Franklin Starks, Jr. and is survived by sister, Mabel McGreggor, her children, Johnnie Earl Starks and Brenda S. Kennerty, stepchildren Morris Lee Jackson, Jr., Judy Mikels, Shirley and Vivian, as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The relatives and friends of Betty Virginia Jackson are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Graveside, Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon between 4:00 and 6:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy.
