Betty Ann Welch Huggins

Betty Ann Welch Huggins, 90, of Hollywood, SC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Betty Ann was born into this world on May 22, 1934. She grew up in the wonderful Village of Adams Run, where she was adored and "spoiled rotten" by her much older siblings.

Betty Ann attended Adams Run Elementary School, then on to St. Paul's High School, where she excelled in basketball and was a drum majorette as well as a cheerleader. She was voted "Best All Round Girl" in the graduating class of 1952. After graduation, she attended Saint Francis School of Nursing, Florence Area School of Nursing and retired from MUSC.

Betty Ann was a member of St. Paul's Garden Club and Christ-St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She loved to "piddle" with her plants and purchase more shoes than the law should allow!

Betty Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Silas S. and Naomi Bailey Welch; sisters, Frances Welch Shealy and Naomi Welch Kennedy; brothers, Whitmarsh B. Welch and Silas B. Welch; and her youngest child, Donald Lee Huggins.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rose Anne Huggins Baldwin (Jeff) and Elizabeth B. Huggins; two sons, Frederick M. Huggins and Silas W. Huggins (Christy); seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Betty Ann's Funeral Service will be at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Burial will follow at St. Paul's Episcopal Churchyard, Hollywood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
