Elizabeth Anne Young Burris (Betty Anne), widow of Alonzo Anderson Burris, Jr., danced her way through the pearly gates on February 25, 2015. The relatives and friends of Betty Ann Burris are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 89 Hasell St. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carolina Yacht Club, 50 East Bay Street, Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. She was born on May 24, 1928, in Charleston, SC, the youngest and fourteenth child of Ruby Cole Young and Thomas H. Young. Betty Anne grew up in downtown Charleston, and the Young family was active in the parish of The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. She graduated from the Cathedral School, Bishop England High School and attended Winthrop College. After working briefly in the Charleston County School System she married Lonnie on October 7, 1950 at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Betty Anne, a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation, was an active member of The Country Club of Charleston. She was a past president of the Women's Golf Association where she played regularly until a few years ago. She loved being by the water, whether it was the beach or the waterway, as well as cooking, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and Davis Love III. Betty Anne also enjoyed playing bridge and later in life became passionate about reading. Betty Anne lived the last five years of her life at the Arcadia unit of the Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community. The family is most grateful for all the wonderful people that provided so much love and support during her time there. Betty Anne is survived by her three sons Alonzo (Lon) A. Burris III (Anne); M. Bruce Burris; Steven Y. Burris (Ann), all of Charleston; and daughter, Lynn Burris Brooke (Rob) of Richmond, VA. "Babbi" is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Scott Burris (Harriet); Will Burris (Katie); Carrie Burris; Beverly Burris; Lt. Michael Burris; Caroline Brooke; Eliza Brooke; Steven Burris; Austin Burris; Ralsie Brooke; and Lawton Burris; and one great-grandson Thomas Burris. Betty Anne is now reunited in heaven with her husband and her grandson, Ben Burris.
