Betty was born in Charleston on February 17, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Richard Eugene Wheeler and Katie Smoak Wheeler. She was raised in Charleston and was part of a large, loving family. She retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Company as a customer service representative. After retirement, she worked in several retail shops in and around the Market. Never meeting a stranger, Betty welcomed many visitors to Charleston telling them stories of growing up downtown near Colonial Lake. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Betty had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She was a real "people person," but she never held back from speaking her mind. Friends and family always knew where she stood on any topic. She was a great cook and she loved gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers and hanging baskets. Betty was always immaculately dressed and she loved getting ready for special occasions. Survivors include a brother, James L. Wheeler and his wife Carolyn, two sisters, Edith W. Doyle and Daphne W. Stephens, all of Charleston; and sister-in-law Joan S. Wheeler of Moultrie, GA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families who thought their Aunt Betty always added more fun to their lives. She is also survived by her dearest friend, Mildred Mew and her husband, Tommy, of Johns Island. Betty was predeceased by her husband George Anderson and one sister, Dorothy Burnette Powers and one brother, Richard Eugene Wheeler. The family thanks the staffs of Carter May Home and Mt.
