Beth Carter Gibson

February 18, 1933 — November 20, 2022

On November 20, 2022, Elizabeth “Beth” Gibson joined her parents and her brother forever.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM, Saturday, November 26, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 95 Hasell Street. The Rite of Committal will be private.

Beth was born in Charleston on February 18, 1933, which was her mother’s birthday. While Beth was raising four children, she returned to college to obtain her degree at the Charleston Southern University. Thereafter, she led the 1980 Lowcountry Census Bureau. Beth found her true passion at the Charleston County Solicitor’s office where she was the victim/witness advocate . She truly flourished in her job and helped many find support and comfort in the justice system.

Beth was an extrovert in every sense, striking up conversations everywhere, not only with friends, but with strangers too—even on the New York City subway. She would simply say that she cared about people, and she loved widening her circle of friends. Her voice and radiant smile will be sorely missed by all who knew her, and she will always be in our heart.

Beth’s parents, Gerald M. Carter and Elizabeth Broening Carter, as well as her brother, Capt. Gerald M. Carter, predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lucia Blacksher (James), and her four children: Elizabeth Gibson, Mac Gibson (Loretta), Anne Gibson, and Thomas Gibson. She had 7 grandchildren, Sarah Nicksa (Chris), Joseph Cope (Elizabeth), James Parker Gibson, Travis Gibson, Agatha Gibson, Sarah Quackenbush, and Olivia Thompson, and a great grandson, Samuel Nicksa.

The family is grateful to the dedicated staff at the Indigo Hall Assisted Living, and as a result, the family requests that any donation be made to the Christmas Funds at Indigo Hall Assisted Living, 509 Standard Way, Charleston, SC 29412.
