Bert L. Sloan, age 82, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011. He was born on October 10, 1928 in Keensburg Colorado, the son of the late Harry L. Sloan and the late Mayble C. Sloan. Bert served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon, Korean Ribbon and United Nations Service Ribbon. He worked most of his life as a foreman at Allied Chemical and Kerr McGee Chemical Plant. Bert was a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge. He was a wonder father and a terrific grandfather to his only grandson. Bert spend many hours taking his grandson to the airport to see the C17 aircrafts take off in flight. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and some special neighbors . Bert is survived by his daughters, Cheryl S Shenck and her husband ,Robert , and Cindi D Kirkland and her husband, Michael, and one grandson, Michael L. "Kirk" Kirkland, Jr. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores P Sloan, brothers: Russell Sloan, Gerald Sloan, Earl Sloan and Charles Sloan and a sister, Zelda Bradshaw. The relatives and friends of Bert L. Sloan are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 19, 2011 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The burial will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home . Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association 1941 Savage Road, Charleston SC 29414. Arrangements are by JAMES A. MCALISTER Funerals & Cremation.
