Bernice Walters

Bernice Tillman Walters, 83, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025. She was the daughter of John R. Tillman, Jr. and Mary Blackman Tillman.

Bernice was a graduate of Rivers High School. She was a devoted member of Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Bernice served on many committees and led numerous events centered around her love of cooking.

Bernice was a proud and loving grandmother to four grandchildren, never missing a single game and cheering them on every step of the way. Bernice will be remembered for her warmth, faith, laughs and the joy she brought to those around her.

Bernice is survived by her husband of 65 years, Tom Walters; her children, Tommy Walters (Tammy) and Tara Helms (Sandy); her grandchildren, Trey Walters (Kati), Tyler Helms (Katie), Tamara Morris (Marlin) and Drew Helms; her great-grandson, JT Helms with two more great-grandchildren on the way; four sisters-in-law, Debbie Tillman, Kathy Tillman, Cathy Walters and Janice Walters; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Walters and Kenny Walters. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her five brothers, Skippy Tillman, Milton Tillman, Fred Tillman, Donald Tillman and Gary Tillman.

Her Funeral Service will be 12:00 PM, Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Asbury-St. James United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Timothy G. Shaw. The burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
