Bernard Robert Bevis of Charleston, SC, passed into eternal life on November 19, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with illness. His wife and children were in attendance. Born January 26, 1934 in Charleston, SC, Bernard was the son of John Henry Bevis of Jonesville, SC and Mamie Welch Bevis of Charleston, SC. Bernard was educated in Charleston schools at Bishop England and the College of Charleston. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Bernard is survived by his wife Mary Cargile Bevis, son Robert Bevis, Jr. of Charleston, daughter Denise Bevis D'Angelo of Atlanta, GA, his six grandchildren Dillon Wagers, Robert Bevis, Parks Bevis, Mark Lee, Jr. Michael Lee, and Catherine D'Angelo; his brothers: Alfred E. Bevis, Charles Bevis, James Bevis, and sisters Ruth Chiola and Mary Gormly. He has numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Brenda Bevis Lee, of Cornelius, NC; brothers: Edward Bevis, John Bevis, and Lawrence Bevis; and sisters: Francis Grube, Sister Emmanuel Bevis, and Mildred Gregg. The visitation will be at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy, Charleston on Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Savannah Hwy. The Rite of Committal will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island.
